I'm not so sure I care for it. Seems a little like a step backward in aesthetics. It also doesn't fit right on my screen like the old site did. Plus, you can't read the poll.

I'll have to agree with Lawler so far.

- i think it looks less clean and professional overall.

- the pages seem to be loading twice a slow.

- at the top the menu bar is there twice, right on top of each other, which seems redundant.

Ash,

I like the redesign on the site. It's way easier on the eyes. Seeing a
slashdot banner ad was a little disconcerting, but who knows where marketing
demos overlap, eh?

Yeah, what idiot put that there?

Check it again now.  The menu is all fixed and tidy now -- check out the dropdown, which is replacing the stupid old "Topic Links" list.  Finishing up color changes now.

For reference, here is google's cache of the old site:

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:R3MNM6GpkV0J:www.nadamucho.com/+&hl=en

What, exactly, did you like about the old one more?  Apart from the obvious things that are still getting fixed on the new one (like survey text, once I can test it).

The left menu bar that no one could read?  That's all organized nicely ("Recent Articles") beneath the current 5 articles -- scroll down and check it out.  The calendar had to be moved to the right side, which was the only other thing there.

The Topic Link box that displayed every category, regardless of whether there was any content in it or not?  That's all organized into dropdown menus under the main headings.

Maybe we ditch the single big headliner and make them all stack two-wide?  I'll give that a shot now.

Most of the changes I've been working on so far are internal -- to make sure that when someone searches for, i.e. "Bobby Bare Jr interview" on google, Nada comes up first.

The second thing that I take into account is usability from someone that hasn't been trained on it for two years.  Face it--the site was impossible to navigate by someone without prior knowledge of what they were looking for.  There wasn't much of a way for someone to just 'poke around' without doing a full-fledged search.

What else?

Definitely better now than it was yesterday morning.

I do think we should have a featured story, however.  Especially since there's only a new one every couple of days. I'd like to see it go back to one story across the top and recent stories underneath, two wide.

The navigation is much nicer now, however, I agree, and improved functionality, especially for searching the site, would be welcome.

Today definitely looks better. Thanks for taking the time yesterday to talk about color and design and for helping me get some defaults in here that I wanted for the things I do.

He's hard to track down people, but the King of Fish is always willing to please you if you just ask him nicely Smiley

improvements are coming along nicely. things that need attending to now Fish are:

1) the links system is less functional than before the switch. right now it lets me add new links but then they don't appear anywhere. there also isn't a "weblinks" choice on the admin menu anymore.

2) the photo albums thing is impossible to use. can you give us some guidance to get us going?

3) the ephemerids and encyclopedia don't activate when i tell them to activate. wanna work on those for launch in the fall. please help.

There's a problem with the forums...
When  I try to browse through pages of a thread by using the numbers on the bottom or by clicking on the "the poop" or "music" buttons to navigate, I often get sent back to the front forum page. Anyone else have this problem or is it just a safari browser thing?
