: Boat Interview : ashmatty December 27, 2005, 09:32:52 PM The very good local band known as Boat (http://boat.ohnodisaster.com/) sent this out on their mailing list. Thought you might enjoy.
Happy Holidays, We here at Boat HQ wanted to send out a quick update to you and yours. Our own Hector Fozzelberry sat down with D. Crane for a quick interview on Christmas Eve. HF: What does Boat have in store for 2006? DC: Hmm, we are currently tracking our 2nd LP.."The Electric House." We are doing things differently this time. HF: What do you mean differently? DC: Well, we are taking a little more time and using slightly more expensive ($70) microphones. Well, I should say we are using one $70 microphone and some cheaper ones. But the big change is we are going to attempt a mass production by hand and glue stick of 300 albums. We are going to attempt to create listening stations at Sonic Boom Records and Easy Street Records in Seattle---and sell them there. HF: Will the packaging still be somewhat clunky and homemade? DC: Indeed (Thumbs up)..awkward laughter. HF: Is it true that you guys are big time? DC: No, I think you got that wrong..we are real big time! HF: The rumor on my street is that you guys are only playing live on the radio in January.is this a fact? DC: Yes, we are playing live on KEXP (January 28th) and we are hoping to also play live on 107.7..KNDD..sometime during the month. HF: When will the album be done? DC: When it is done.. HF: Seriously, I have heard you could make an album a week? DC: We will probably be done by late February or maybe March..we could indeed make an album a week..if need be. HF: Who would need that? DC: I don't know, you said it. HF: Tell us about the album. DC: It will probably be only a single LP although we have 33 songs (original plans were to be a double LP) right now. We will cut them down just like I was cut from my high school baseball team. It will probably be about 38-41 minutes long. It will feature some accompaniment from the middle schoolers where I teach.probably from the 7th and 8th grade orchestra. It will have the best homemade packaging of all time. The songs will be our best ever. It will indeed be available at local stores. This album will hopefully inspire Paul McCartney and Ringo to get back together and create a supergroup with Brian Wilson and Chris Cornell.that will attempt to compete with us for best homemade pop album of all time. HF: Will the new album include the songs you put out on your last single? DC: Maybe, some promises were made with that single that may be broken. HF: What? DC: Let's wrap it up..this whole thing feels a little trite. HF: OK, any last words.. DC: Listen to Boat play on KEXP later this month and hopefully never play in the GAP. HF: Why not the GAP? DC: I don't know.it just would be strange.I already feel strange enough shopping there. HF: Yep..ok : Re: Boat Interview : ashmatty May 06, 2006, 10:52:55 AM Boat are funny and cool and I like them.
Dearest Email Victims, It is me H. Fozzelberry with some hot and dirty BOAT update action. The band is once again stepping out of the basement in order to play two shows in one week. It will be their only May appearances. The first will be at 8:30 Monday, May 8th at Chop Suey. The band will indeed be playing second leaving time for all to sleep afterwards. And the second show they will do will be an all ages show at 7:30 pm on Friday May 12th at the Vera Project (located in the Capitol Hill Arts Center). Both shows will They have plans to play two completely different sweaty sets of sloppy pop music. I recently dialed up D. Crane for an interview and interrupted his nightly viewing of King of Queens. HF: Is this D? DC: Yeah let me turn down the TV, I'm watching King of Queens. HF: Are you there? DC: Yep. Okay let's do it. HF: Why are you playing two shows in a week? DC: Why not? HF: Many would say you guys are playing too much. DC: Who are these many, and how do we get them to attend our shows? HF: Is this your first show at the VERA Project? DC: Yes, we are very excited. HF: Do you have anything special planned for the shows? DC: We are going to play two totally different sets. We may not even play the same song twice. We may or may not play cover songs or even bring a Wurlitzer to one or both of the shows. HF: That is mysterious but….many people say that is not a good strategy for a local band trying to build a fanbase. DC: Once again, who are these many people and can they make it to the shows? HF: I heard you guys are finished recording your debut LP for Magic Marker Records (www.magicmarkerrecords.com)? DC: It is true, it will be released on July 12th all around the country. It will be pink. I think that it will have cool cardboard packaging. We really want to play an in-store at Sonic Boom when it comes out. We will be touring from Vancouver, BC to LA after it comes out. It has 8 older songs that we redid and 9 new ones. It will be called "Songs That You Might Not LIke." HF: Was it hard choosing songs for the LP? I heard you guys had 110 to choose from. DC: We actually have 112 songs. Eventually they will be released. We are still doing a couple other releases by the end of the summer. One will be wrapped in aluminum foil, one will not. HF: Why are you so hung up on wrapping the album in foil? You constantly mention this. DC: Who wouldn't want to buy and album that reflects sunlight? HF: This is the first interview where the interviewee has asked me so many questions. Do you have any other plans for the spring and summer? DC: My goals are to swim occasionally, lose a bit of weight, play an outdoor show and teach my cats to get along. HF: Well, I for one will be at both shows Mr. Crane. DC: So will I. Yes, indeed join BOAT at the Chop Suey on Monday and then at the all ages VERA Project on Friday. It will be a magical week for geeks, nerds, and lovers of sweaty, sloppy pop music. H. Fozzelberry (BOAT ACCOUNTS MANAGER---current balance $12.35) |
