I have a feeling the movie is going to be terrible and horrible. I will still watch it.
2  Pop Culture, Categorically / TV / TiVo v DVR on: June 16, 2005, 02:36:25 PM
I'm looking into getting TiVo now instead of switching to a DVR on my Comcast system.

Does anyone have a brief point/counterpoint on these? I haven't had either one of them, and am venturing into researching which I should get.

Any feedback?

Anyone else watch the Six Feet Under premiere last night? Just wondering what everyone thought.

I'd now like to run a survey about what people think of TiVo versus getting a DVR....what's the disadvantage/advantage in a nutshell? Come on tv nerds, fill me in!

It's the book Secrets of the Code...it's a guide to the secrets revealed in The Da Vinci Code.

I know, I gave it a good try...but I was too distracted by figuring out what each word meant, and wasn't absorbing the meaning of the sentence. It was taking me way too long.

Whatever.

I agree. Six Feet Under definitely dropped off after the first two seasons. However, I just watched season four and thought it was better than season three.

Season Five starts tonight, so it'll be totally weird to watch new episodes as they air (since I have HBO now) and not end up watching an entire season in three days on DVD as I've previously been used to.

In other news, didn't get the DVR, since I didn't have the stupid RF Modulator and retard Comcast guy didn't bring one to sell to me at a ridiculously inflated price, as my lazy ass didn't want to drive to Radio Shack to get one. Now I'm thinking TiVo.....?

I didn't think it was boring at all. I thought Johnny Depp did an incredible job portraying JM Barrie, who *was* a bit of a nutjob, and a grown up kid that liked to do nothing better than write. I'd read about him previously so it was fun to see it portrayed in a movie that had beautiful backdrops and settings.

Also, I love Johnny Depp and was able to ogle him in one of his less grungy dirty roles. He was hot.

You can totally borrow my Christmas present. It's located on my desk shelf at work.

Whomever hasn't read Angels and Demons and Digital Fortress, those are also pretty good.

I finally figured out which is the first episode of the fourth season and I am going to begin my project of taping them all to VHS tapes in anticipation of the 5th season and also to help  A-Law's archivist needs.

Also, after I got over my hatred of On Demand, Comcast will be arriving at my house this Sunday to hook up my Internet (yea, I finally have a good computer) and to also install a recorder box for my digital cable so that I can watch one channel and tape another and pre-program it for recording purposes. This might be totally awesome.

I was wondering what you were going to think of that movie. I thought it was way overhyped.  Dumb.

I did. I really liked it. I then read Angels and Demons and Digital Fortress. Then I bought books *about* The DaVinci Code and read them. Then I actually (don't laugh) went to this church book group every Thursday for a few weeks when they were studying this book. I just wanted to see what actual religious people thought (they were pretty cool, by the way.)

I don't think it's the best book ever or really reveals startling information that wasn't previously known. I think it disseminated that information to a generation and demographic of people that were largely ignorant on the subjects discussed in the book. I also thought it was a book that provided a topic of discussion and a jumping off point to learn more and to stimulate conversation.

All in all, I liked it. I also liked the others which are very similar but about different topics. I can loan them to you, if you like.

What'd you think, Matt?
