8  Local / Seattle / Pacific Northwest / Re: Boat Interview on: May 06, 2006, 10:52:55 AM
Boat are funny and cool and I like them.

Dearest Email Victims,

It is me H. Fozzelberry with some hot and dirty BOAT update action.

The band is once again stepping out of the basement in order to play two shows in one week.  It will be their only May appearances.  The first will be at 8:30 Monday, May 8th at Chop Suey.  The band will indeed be playing second leaving time for all to sleep afterwards.  And the second show they will do will be an all ages show at 7:30 pm on Friday May 12th at the Vera Project (located in the Capitol Hill Arts Center).  Both shows will

They have plans to play two completely different sweaty sets of sloppy pop music.  I recently dialed up D. Crane for an interview and interrupted his nightly viewing of King of Queens.

HF: Is this D?

DC: Yeah let me turn down the TV, I'm watching King of Queens.

HF: Are you there?

DC: Yep.  Okay let's do it.

HF: Why are you playing two shows in a week?

DC: Why not?

HF: Many would say you guys are playing too much.

DC:  Who are these many, and how do we get them to attend our shows?

HF: Is this your first show at the VERA Project?

DC: Yes,  we are very excited.

HF: Do you have anything special planned for the shows?

DC: We are going to play two totally different sets.  We may not even play the same song twice.  We may or may not play cover songs or even bring a Wurlitzer to one or both of the shows.

HF: That is mysterious but….many people say that is not a good strategy for a local band trying to build a fanbase.

DC: Once again, who are these many people and can they make it to the shows?

HF: I heard you guys are finished recording your debut LP for Magic Marker Records (www.magicmarkerrecords.com)?

DC: It is true, it will be released on July 12th all around the country.   It will be pink.  I think that it will have cool cardboard packaging.  We really want to play an in-store at Sonic Boom when it comes out.  We will be touring from Vancouver, BC to LA after it comes out.  It has 8 older songs that we redid and 9 new ones.  It will be called "Songs That You Might Not LIke."

HF: Was it hard choosing songs for the LP?  I heard you guys had 110 to choose from.

DC:  We actually have 112 songs.  Eventually they will be released.  We are still doing a couple other releases by the end of the summer.  One will be wrapped in aluminum foil, one will not.

HF: Why are you so hung up on wrapping the album in foil?  You constantly mention this.

DC: Who wouldn't want to buy and album that reflects sunlight?

HF:  This is the first interview where the interviewee has asked me so many questions.  Do you have any other plans for the spring and summer?

DC:  My goals are to swim occasionally, lose a bit of weight, play an outdoor show and teach my cats to get along.

HF: Well,  I for one will be at both shows Mr. Crane.

DC: So will I.

Yes, indeed join BOAT at the Chop Suey on Monday and then at the all ages VERA Project on Friday.  It will be a magical week for geeks, nerds, and lovers of sweaty, sloppy pop music.

King Kong: This was not good. Everything that's bad about a big budget hollywood blockbuster remake. Terribly disappointing. (3/10)

Brokeback Mountain: Snoozer. I didn't buy either of those guys as cowboys. Homos for sure, but cowboys? Nope. That said, this was still a pretty good, complex love story and beautifully told that would have been a pleasant surprise were it not for the hype. (6/10)

Grizzly Man: This came highly recommended, but about 30 seconds into that idiot's open monologue I wanted to turn him off. This would have been way better had the documentarian not revealed his demise so early in the film. Had it been more chronological it would have been more fun to watch, because it would have given me something to root for ("please let this fucking idiot get eaten by a bear...please let this fucking idiot get eatin by a bear"),  but as it is it was a mildy entertaining movie that could have been done in a half hour. They also should have definitely saved the audio tape of he and his girlfriend getting aten alive and made it a bonus feature on the DVD. (4/10)

13  Stuff / Stuff / Ball of Wax on: April 25, 2006, 06:35:23 PM
This Thursday, April 27, is the CD release show for Ball of Wax Volume 4 (aka the covers project), which features a bunch of artists from the previous three balls of wax covering each other's songs. If you're unfamiliar with BoW, check out this site: http://www.ballofwax.org. On Thursday almost everyone on the CD will be playing the song they covered, and their song that was covered, and it's going to be crazy and fun. Among our collective, if you will, the graze, Rosyvelt, and Seth Howard will all be performing together, doing songs by Andrea Maxand, Robert Deeble, and Johanna Kunin, respectively. Here are the details:

Thursday Apr 27, 2006
8:00 PM, 21+
Conor Byrne Pub
5140 Ballard Ave NW
Seattle, WA 98107

It's $4 which includes the CD.
