Stuff / Stuff / Nada Mucho's Wikipedia Entry
|
on: May 04, 2006, 10:23:43 PM
|
Help us create our very own wikipedia entry. Here's what we have so far: Nada Mucho, or www.nadamucho.com, is an online entertainment magazine based in Seattle, WA. Created by Matt Ashworth and Gabe Baker in 1995, Nada Mucho's main focus is music, although film, books and television are sometimes covered. Nada Mucho was created as a creative outlet for Ashworth and Baker to discuss their favorite new albums and, in the heady early days of the internet, the logical progression was to create a website that would be updated monthly. Quickly, more writers came aboard and began contributing in a wildly random, sometimes coherent style. T-shirts were made. The early days of Nada Mucho included lists, lists and more lists, usually revolving around how awesome the Afghan Whigs were. As more people became involved, including Sean "The Snizz" Oliver, Caleb Baker, and Adam "I Respectfully Request That You Refrain From Referring To Me As 'D.H." Lawrence, Nada Mucho shifted its focus to "timely reviews." As timeliness involves punctuality, Nada Mucho quickly shifted its focus again to just "reviews." As soon as Nada Mucho staff members figured out how to get on guest lists to local concerts, Nada Mucho began interviewing musicians and artists, both local and national in scope. Interviewees have included Neko Case, Jay Farrar, Ian MacKaye, Eddie Spaghetti, Ken Bethea and Steve-O. Recently, Nada Mucho founder Ashworth has focused on promoting local rock showcases, including New Music Monday, a mildly successful forum for unknown bands to play shows probably before they deserve to. Now you!

Stuff / Stuff / Would you like to play a game?

Let's play a new game I invented. It's called First Track/Last Track. All you do is post the first and last track of an album and everyone tries to guess what album it is. Whoever guesses correctly first gets to put up the next one.
Hidden tracks don't count and it shouldn't be so obscure that only you and the engineer on the album know about it.
And of course, no googling.
I'll go first.

Stuff / Stuff / Finally! Dion Weighs in on Hurricane Katrina

It's good to see CNN is committed to the kind of journalism they exhibited last week:
Dion Slams US Authorities Over Katrina Response
Canadian singer Celine Dion has launched a scathing attack on US President George W. Bush's Iraq policy, while criticizing his country's slow response to the southern states devastated by last week's Hurricane Katrina. Dion, who has donated $1 million to victims of the storm, grew visibly emotional as she told of her frustration watching tens of thousands of survivors wait days for aid on CNN's Larry King Live show on Saturday. The hitmaker fumed, "I open (sic) the television, there's people still there, waiting to be rescued, and for me it's not acceptable. I know there's reasons for it, I'm sorry to say, I'm being rude, but I don't want to hear those reasons." Dion criticized authorities for arresting looters in New Orleans, Louisiana, saying they should make rescuing the stranded victims a priority. She said, "Oh, they're stealing 20 pair of jeans or they're stealing television sets. Who cares? They're not going to go too far with it. Maybe those people are so poor, some of the people who do that they're so poor they've never touched anything in their lives. Let them touch those things for once." Dion referred to Bush's controversial war in Iraq, saying, "How come it's so easy to send planes in another country to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives? We need to be there right now to rescue the rest of the people."
It's fun to say these quotes out loud with a terrible French accent.

Has anyone else heard the album from Black Mountain? Over the last couple of weeks I have heard nothing but good things about them and incredulous reports of them opening for Coldplay at White River. I was at Best Buy tonight to get the new New Pornos, but I wasn't satisfied just giving them $9.99 so I grabbed the Black Mountain CD as well. So far:
Track 1 - Stupid, kinda Polyphonic Spree-ish Track 2 - Awesome, very Black Sabbath (at least in the drum sound) Track 3 - Okay
That's as far as I've gotten, but I definitely turned it way up when that second track came on.
