Hey all -

After nearly 48 straight hours of contractions and 20 hours of active labor, Sybil delivered Iris Lynn Ashworth Rohlf this afternoon at 2:26 p.m.

Iris is 22 inches long and weighs 9 lbs, 14 ounces. She has nearly a full head of curly reddish-brown hair and is absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me in getting my shit together towards being a good father, and to all of you who've supported Sybil and I in preparation of the little bundle of joy.

And for one last fun fact:

- the circumference of Iris' head at the time of birth was 14 inches.

Congratulations to you both on the arrival of your beautiful daughter...we all can't wait to see her.

Have you started teaching her how to play the guitar yet?

nope, but she does already know the difference between the past and the present participle and has memorized the Rolling Stone 200.

here's a list of some other albums that i've listened to with the little peanut:

Shins - Chutes too Narrow
Shins albums have like a nine month aging period before they infect my every pore. Same thing happened with the last one. When I put this on I was like "its ok, nothing exciting." Now I can't stop listening to it. Incredible.

The Cheeps
Great, great garage rock band in the vein of Catheters/Stooges from B'ham. Tasteful touches of horns and organ, but songs solid enough to stand on their own. Played this for Iris garage-punk-lovin' Momma, actually, but she seemed to like it too.

United State of Electronica
Last Sunday morning I disco danced with little Iris in my arms for at least 6 straight tracks on this sucker. Then I got tired.

Drive by Truckers - Decoration Day
DBTs are still the best living band in America. FYI.

Belated congratulations, Matt and Sybil! Don't forget that babies need Beatles. Beatles Beatles Beatles. That stuff about Mozart making kids smart is a load of yuppie crap. Rubber Soul and Revolver turn children into the kind of people with whom you can have long, intelligent conversations about music.

I'll be in town on July the 14th. I'm going to Springfield, OR with my dad for his 40th high school reunion that weekend, but I'll be hanging around Seattle through the 21st. Please note that I'll have all of those fabled mix CDs that I never get around to mailing...

Love to Baby ILAR. Avoid playing her lots of Velvet Underground right now... unless you want her to turn out like me!

Mr. Brown, make sure to have a Northwest public debut, as there are some of us who believe you don't actually exist.

My schedule is fairly flexible. I'm unavailable the weekend of the 10th and busy off and on, on the weekend of the 31st, but that's about it.

By the way, I don't like to be pinched.

Gelfling - you don't?

Brown - definitely should hook up while you're in town. gotta get you going on doing some Nada shows down in Tucson. perhaps a night of cards and drinky-poos at Mr Tiffany's place is in order during your tenure here. let me know which nights you have free, as my schedule is considerably less flexible with the little one to attend to.

Beatles are on tap for baby Iris in the new future. I can't stop listening to "Saphire Jewel" by Trailer Bride and sighing. "Gotta little jewel, she's my saphire gem you know she sparkles, deep blue. gotta hold her close but not squeeze too tight, keep her shiny and new..."

On Wednesday at around 2 P.M., I'm gonna be getting off the jet, throwing my head back and howling the most primal howl Sea-Tac's ever hosted. I haven't been tan, healthy and single in the Northwest since the days when most of your Nada staff were still in Hammer pants! I'm gonna be looking for Mac and Jack's Liquid Crack (African Amber... can't get it in Tucson,) flexible and available women who aren't too shy to pinch back, and an overall funky good time. And lots of live music from Seattle bands who don't suck.

I dig babies too. Maybe we can get some strollers and take Iris and Laney and Joe Vallejos over to Woodland Park to pet the goats!

Sounds like a plan. Little Iris is at Woodland Park zoo as we speak with Mommy, Grandmommy and roommates Katy and Shannon (born two weeks prior.)

In other news, Nada friends Jason and Nancy Dahlberg had their daughter Jacklyn Sofia Dahlberg on the 4th of July. She is 7 pounds 6 ounces and 20 inches long. Momma had to get a C Section but both her and baby are reportedly doing well. Congrats to the Dahlbergs.
