Anger Management: Not bad. Jack is pretty funny. 7.5/10

25th Hour - It was an ok movie.  I like Ed Norton, altough he seems to have trouble picking good films lately.  6.5/10

Comedian -  A fascinating  behind the scenes documentary starring lil Jerry Seinfeld and other stand ups.  It focuses on Jerry trying to work a new act after retiring his old bits.  Pretty interesting.   7/10

Punch Drunk Love - I'd gotten rave reviews of this movie, but I thought that while it had some excellent dialogue and humorous scenes, they were fewer and more far between than I care for - 5/10

Just Married - Typical romantic comedy fluff - 3/10

*As a sidenote, I have to include A-Law's recorded tape of Six Feet Under Season 3 that I am about halfway through. I continue to love this show more than my own life - 10/10

The Hours - I think I may need more historical background on Virginia Woolfe to fully enjoy this movie. It was ok. 6/10

Die Another Day - Just like all the rest. A fun, none-thinking movie. Plus, Halle Berry wears leather. 7.5/10

Phone Booth - Horribly boring. I liked all the parts where he *wasn't* in the phone booth. 1.5/10

I thought Phone Booth was OK.   Worth a rent.   6.5/10

Spirited Away -  I am not a huge fan of japanimation but this movie was good.  It won all sorts of award and stuff.  By the same guy that did Princess Mononoke (which is also good).    7/10

Big Red One -  Lee Marvin kicked ass.  One of my favorite war movies.  Hadn't seen it in awhile and it is still good.  8/10

Jungle Book 2 - Can't really remember any of it.  Must not have been that good.   4/10

Identity - Surprisingly good...psychological thriller that doesn't require a whole lot of thinking. Or, so you think. (7/10)

Poolhall Junkies - Rounders, but with pool. Plus, Christopher Walken is a badass. (8/10)

Dreamcatcher - Based on the book by Stephen King, obviously not nearly as well done. Still, somewhat interesting. (6/10)

Mighty Wind - I was somewhat disappointed with this one. Not nearly as funny as Best in Show or Waiting for Guffman (6/10)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I borrowed this one from my dad (leftover video store owning collection) to refresh my memory before going to see the new one (opening in theatres October 17). I'd forgotten how horribly terrible it is, yet sooooo sooooo good as well. I think I watched a documentary before about the movie being made on about 500 dollars and in 200 degree heat. Ok, maybe an exaggeration, but still...

8/10....extra point for nostalgia factor.

I just noticed this, and am confused. You're supposed to like all of the stuff that is the best ever, and this movie is the best cinematic pop-culture litmus test we have since Bottle Rocket. Please watch it again. Its the subtle dialogue and the fact that its the most romantic movie EVER created that does it. You have to like it.

That is all.

A Mighty Wind

My one problem with Mighty Wind was that its so similar in form to Guest's other movies that they are bordering on parody of themselves and/or growing stale. However, its FAR, far funnier than Best in Show, which despite being their first real crossover success is in my un-humble opinion, the worst of the lot. Guffman is a timeless classic and Spinal Tap, is well, fuckin' Spinal Tap. But you put A Mighty Wind out first and its as solid as any of those. Fred Willard is especially heelarious, his best role ever. "Wha' Happened!?" And that scene where the Folksmen are talking about needing to open strong so viewers don't reach for the remotes, then realizing its on PBS and Guest says "oh wait, they don't have remotes" is one of the funniest, subtle lines I've seen in a long time. And the outtakes are great. The other coolest part is when the foreign PR chick lady hums with her mouth open during that tost. Great shit. We're voraciously searching for a download of it on the super geek network. (8/10)

If any of you are fans of history, war movies or WWII in particular, you must immediately rent, purchase or download HBO's Band of Brothers mini-series. Its masterfully done in every aspect. The acting is top notch, to the point where I forget i'm watching a movie not a documentary. Hanks and Spielberg spent an assload assuring the cinematography and other production elements are phenomenal, and similar to other superior HBO studios stuff (Sopranos, 6 Ft Under), they use different writers and directors on the different episodes, giving it an element of staying fresh. I haven't made it through an episode w/o breaking down into tears during the opening comments from real-life veterans of the 101st airborne, and each episode has had a couple scenes concerning aspects of war that i'd never considered, prompting me and my roommates to oftentimes yell out "holy fuck, holy fuck, holy fuck, holy fuck." When we watched the episode where one of our soldiers sees his buddy from high school - there fighting with the Germans cause his family are Nazi bastards - required we turn it off and go have a cigarette on the porch. Its not easy viewing, but if you've ever been interested in the last real war our country's been involved in or been proud of your grandfather's involvement and happy to have been alive with him long enough to hear stories, you wanna watch this. It makes Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, and Saving Private Ryan look like conry child's play. - (10/10)

Because of Matt's rambling, and the fact that a chunk of his remarks are directed toward mine, I'm going for the 3-parter as well.

In regard to liking Punch Drunk Love...I will not resign myself to agreeing with you in regards to most romantic movies EVER. I've sat there while you and I and others were offering suggestions, and believe me...I don't think we're on the same page when it comes to what's romantic or not. Another thing is that I didn't like it...and I've passed all the OTHER litmus tests. Punch Drunk Love was overrated.

I also completely disagree with you in regards to Mighty Wind. One of the reasons I disliked it as much as I did (and I never said it was terrible, just a disappointment) was that it *was* such a large departure from the same kind of movie that Guffman and Best in Show were.

I'm a creature of habit, and I like a formula that works...so I was disappointed when it wasn't as funny to me as the other two.

I would recommend that people that have seen it in the movie rent the DVD. The extras are worth the four bucks.

I borrowed the Band of Brothers DVD's from Mr. Fisher, and boy, I barely left my couch until I was through all ten hours of fantastic greatness. The clips of the vets talking about their experiences were indeed heartbreaking and lent an indispensable aspect to the movie.

I don't know if you used this tool of reference, Matt, but I found the extra stuff, mostly the timeline, available on each episode incredibly educational and it gave me a much better idea of the history they were covering.

Incredible. If anyone else hasn't seen this series, you should do so immediately.
