THURSDAY OCTOBER 14th - CHOP SUEY
The Orphan Project, At the Spine, Martian Memo to God

At the Spine are one of Seattle's best kept secrets. Their debut album,
The Curriculum's Never Neutral, mixed Fugazi-like guitar precision with melodic alt-rock and edgy percussion, charting decent college radio play outside Seattle and garnering glowing reviews from the NYC and LA indie rock press. Live, ATS guitarist/vocalist Mike Toschi is like a jack-rabbit on crack, pogoing spastically across the stage and into the crowd, all the while managing to propel his oftentimes bitter songs to new levels of sonic intensity. With a new album scheduled for a late 2004 release, now's the time to catch this underappreciated local band. Joining them Thursday at Chop Suey are the energetic Orphan Project and Martian Memo to God, a slick new-wave-influenced punk band that’s been creating a decent buzz locally.

Matt doesn't return my phone calls.  He's big timing me.  I always knew I would have to kill him.

I saw at the spine at the sunset tavern, and i have to say I wasn't all that impressed. Their playing was tight and they were good musicians, but none of their songs really stuck out to me. So I'll give them another chance on Thursday. I never seen the other two bands. Cool

At the Spine rule.  Sand in your Teeth and Power Broker are really good cuts.

Wish I could catch the show but it's a league night.

From today's Stranger:

THURSDAY 10/14

THE ORPHAN PROJECT, AT THE SPINE, MARTIAN MEMO TO GOD
(Chop Suey) The Orphan Project are a local trio who have been playing power pop-flecked rock since 1999. This past spring, they finally released their debut EP, Am I Here to Shoot Balls or to Clear the Table? They're still fairly small fish in this very large pond, but even so, the Orphan Project attacks each show with the energy and enthusiasm of a headlining act playing to thousands. MEGAN SELING

I caught the show. I still don't get what's so special about all three of those bands? especially, at the spine. I saw them at the sunset tavern, and thought i would give them another chance at chop suey... Two chances is all you get with me man, cause i am too important to give shitty bands 3 chances. The other two bands weren't as bad but still not that good either. and what the hell was up with the lead singer of the first band all he did was stand there with his face covered...somebody should tell him that he's not morrisey, so take off your glasses and move around.
