Agreed,
Wes Anderson can do no wrong. This film was as delicious as baked brie.

I thought it was mediocre. A 7/10 at best. All quirkiness and the same, tired plot and sombre/silly Murray character again. Anderson hit perfection with Royal Tennenbaums. But while watching Life Aquatic it sounded like there was a laugh track in the theatre, as the audience gobbled up this rehashed bittersweet family melodrama of the movie's predecessor. The only highlight was Defoe's performance.

Carlo, were you watching the same movie? It was incredible, Anderson's best work since Bottle Rocket, and I thought Dafoe's character was one of the least interesting and Murray was brilliant.

Wes Anderson

1) Bottle Rocket (10/10)
2) A Life Aquatic (10/10)
3) Royal Tennenbaums (8/10)
4) Rushmore (7/10)

I only agree with you on your point that Life Aquatic is as good as Bottle Rocket. But I'd reverse that list:
1. Royal Tennenbaums  10/10
2. Rushmore  8/10
3. A Life Aquatic  7/10
4. Bottle Rocket  7/10

For the record, I thought Life Aquatic was a decent movie. But it was no Tennenbaums.

Now I haven't seen Life Aquatic yet (much to my own self loathing chagrin) but I think Royal Tennenbaums is pretty damned unbeatle.  Perhaps I'm more enthusiastic than most but it has easily made my top ten films all time.

I had to wait a few years to make sure it held up the test of time, and it may still drop, but given the opportunity to sit down and watch one of my DVD's I'm most likely to grab me some Tennenbaums.

When Eli Cash says "I always wanted to be a Tennenbaum" followed by Royal saying "Me too," I sit with my wee box of tissues and a wee driplet of a tear in my eye thinking "*sniffle* me too!"

And yes, one can think the sound of a sniffle... and I do...  shut up...

Now way Tenenbaums is better than Bottle Rocket. The perfect use of "2000 Man" alone puts it in the 9/10 realm.

yeah, i'm having trouble putting tennebaums above any of the wes anderson films except bottle rocket. of course, we are comparing genius to genius to genius, and all of them are worth owning (and i don't own many movies.)

I have to put my list as this...oh lord, am I actually *agreeing* with Matt? Yuck.

1. Bottle Rocket (10/10)
2. A Life Aquatic (8.5/10)
3. Royal Tennenbaums (8/10)
4. Rushmore (7.9/10)

PS: Anyone who didn't like Life Aquatic is weird.
