This is where we talk about how good Outkast is. To start:

1) That new single "Hey Ya" gives me goosebumps in anticipation of Speakerboxxx. I listen to it about 100 times a day. "Gimme some shugga....I'm AM yo' neighbor." And "shake it like a polaroid picture" are the snippets, the piano line and melody are the hook - Outkast isn't all-of-a-sudden no longer the best band in the world. Sorry for the double negative,  but you get my drift.

2) If you download the album through KaZaa or other file-sharing things, you'll get what looks to be all of the tracks, at their correct length. However, each one starts with about 20 seconds of "Whole World" and then is silent for the remaining length of the song. I don't believe in downloading music of course, but we do have a CDR here at the house called "Outkast Tricked Us."

3) Epic is sending me the promo package. Which, of course, will replace the Snoop Dogg and Buzzcocks packages as the "coolest promo ever."

The other song, "Land of 1000 Drums," is the Big Boi's yang to Dre's "Hey Ya" ying. Its a big, crazy, stupid carnival type beat that makes me think of Puttin on the Ritz momentarily,  but in a super cool way. Its just so fucking funky and cool and like nothing I've ever heard before. It makes me sick how good those guys are.

Excuse me please, I have to go listen to the promo single again now.

Shit, looks like the 'Kast song that's from the promo single is "The Way You Move," which is 70s-ish soulfriend funkass princey slystonafied pantry droppin music. Fuck. The land of 1000 drums is from the Scoopy Doo soundtrack. And fuck is it good too.

We should change the name of this Nada forum to "Matt Talks to Himself Because Apparently Now Everyone Hates Outkast" thread.

Listened to both albums now.   I dunno.  Maybe it will take awhile to grow on me, but besides a few amazing cuts The Love Below didn't really grab my attention.  I would rather hear Andre rap than sing R&B.

Speakerboxx is a solid all the way through.  Ghettomusik is amazing.  I like it as much as Hey Ya.  "Feeling Good, Feeling Great."

Very suprised because I have always been more of a Andre 3000 guy but at first listen Big Boi's album is so much more fun.

Snizz is right. "Ghettomusik" is far superior to "The Love Below." I never would've suspected that, but it turns out Dre needs LOTS of Big Boi to temper his neo-hippie bullshit vibe. They are both good albums, but Big Boi's is like a 9.5/10 to Dre's 7/10. Next time, do it together and its a definite 10/10, like the last three.

Is it just me or does The Love Below at times sound like a bad RFTW?

its not just you. on repeated listens its getting more and more annoying. what's with those stupid, stupid skits and shit? is this De La Soul is Dead II? is he in the 9th grade? about half of it i can't even fucking listen to its so terrible. aside from that "Mamacita" track on Aquemini (still their best album, btw), there hasn't ever been an outkast album that i couldn't listen to all the way through, and Love Below is impossible. it makes me cringe sometimes. Hey Ya is superior and there's like 2 or 3 more good tracks, but for the most part its only "original" when viewed within the limit confines of the hip-hop genre. look at it within the entire scope of popular music and its crappy soul-funk retrotrash bullshit. if this came out from a newcomer, on its own, we'd give it a 5/10. Snizz is RIGHT on the money when he says it sounds like RFTW.

my rankings change everyday, but right now i'm at:

Speakerboxxx 9/10
Love Below 5/10

Big Boi 1, Dre 0

I agree wholeheartedly with you both....
speakerboxx is great.... the love below has some amazing moments.... but the great songs are crowded by too much silly r&b hooey.... it's sort of humorous on the first listen but becomes utterly unlistenable after a couple spins.... it's too bad because if they lifted the best tracks off of andre's side and dropped them into the first half this could be one of the best hip-hop albums I've ever heard.... it's a neat concept, splitting the deal between the two, but unfortunately there isn't enough great tracks between them to pull it off.

but wait... we have the technology to do this ourselves....
nominate the excellent tracks from andre's half.... we can cut a few from the first half.... and voilla.

yes, "spread" fuckin' rules. i really like the song with the stupid chorus "roses smell like poo-poo" too. that song is great. then there's one near the end, maybe track 14, that is very prince and very much kicks ass. i'm liking it more now cause sybil plays it nonstop in her car. 7/10.

This reminds of that phase when you were telling me that Dave Matthews was OK.

Look I want to like Dre's album probably more than anybody on the staff but the songs just ain't there.  Repeated listens don't change that fact.
