Kids -

Come help us celebrate at the Sunset Tavern this Saturday, October 22. Our third annual Bday Bash celebrates 8th year as a volunteer online music magazine and third as local music promoters. It's also my 32nd birthday. Rightly so, the three bands on the bill are some of my favorites.

From today's issue of the Stranger.

CHUCKANUT DRIVE, THE PLAINS, HEX COUNTY
(Sunset Tavern) Unless your parents shell out the big bucks for pony rides, most eighth birthday parties don't get any wilder than a sugar high and some Pin the Tail on the Donkey. But the folks who run NadaMucho.com are celebrating their special event the same way they pass every day: By promoting great local music, in this case a trio of noteworthy alt-country acts. Headliners Chuckanut Drive are rolling down from Bellingham to peddle early release copies of their fine sophomore set The Crooked Mile Home. Arrive early for Hex County, who specialize in dark, heavy fare as riveting as a thunderstorm rolling in across the Wyoming landscape. KURT B. REIGHLEY

From tomorrow's Seattle P-I:

Friday, October 21, 2005

NadaMucho celebrates its eighth anniversary birthday bash

Who: NadaMucho.com is a volunteer-run online publication that's been tracking local and national music via its Web site since March 1997. Editor in chief Matt Ashworth (who lists himself on the message boards as "supreme overlord") publishes content with the help of 40 or so volunteers who write reviews and articles for the site.

Quote: Does NadaMucho define what people are listening to in Seattle? Ashworth has a fairly light-hearted attitude about the zine's place. He gives a multiple-choice answer:

a.) No.

b.) If by "people in Seattle" you mean "my lawyer buddy up in Ravenna," then, yes, definitely.

c.) Yes. All of these bands wouldn't exist were it not for us: Stryper, Journey, Buffalo Tom, Hex County, Smoosh and Ayinde Howell.

d.) I hope so.

Performers: Headliners Chuckanut Drive play solid alt-country that isn't above a tongue-in-cheek joke. (Check out the Johnny Cash reference on "Little Did I Know," a track from their about-to-be-released full-length debut, "The Crooked Mile Home.") The Plains are a highly energetic pop-punk band that should please folks who are too embarrassed to admit they like some of that new MTV punk. Hex Country drawl along between Wilco and Richmond Fontaine.

When: Saturday at the Sunset, 5433 Ballard Ave. N.W. Music starts at 9 p.m. $6 at the door.

Online: Click to hear an interview with Chuckanut Drive at www.seattlenoise.com.
