The very good local band known as Boat (
http://boat.ohnodisaster.com/) sent this out on their mailing list. Thought you might enjoy.
Happy Holidays,
We here at Boat HQ wanted to send out a quick update to you and yours. Our own Hector Fozzelberry sat down with D. Crane for a quick interview on Christmas Eve.
HF: What does Boat have in store for 2006?
DC: Hmm, we are currently tracking our 2nd LP.."The Electric House." We are doing
things differently this time.
HF: What do you mean differently?
DC: Well, we are taking a little more time and using slightly more expensive ($70)
microphones. Well, I should say we are using one $70 microphone and some cheaper
ones. But the big change is we are going to attempt a mass production by hand and
glue stick of 300 albums. We are going to attempt to create listening stations at
Sonic Boom Records and Easy Street Records in Seattle---and sell them there.
HF: Will the packaging still be somewhat clunky and homemade?
DC: Indeed (Thumbs up)..awkward laughter.
HF: Is it true that you guys are big time?
DC: No, I think you got that wrong..we are real big time!
HF: The rumor on my street is that you guys are only playing live on the radio in
January.is this a fact?
DC: Yes, we are playing live on KEXP (January 28th) and we are hoping to also play
live on 107.7..KNDD..sometime during the month.
HF: When will the album be done?
DC: When it is done..
HF: Seriously, I have heard you could make an album a week?
DC: We will probably be done by late February or maybe March..we could indeed make
an album a week..if need be.
HF: Who would need that?
DC: I don't know, you said it.
HF: Tell us about the album.
DC: It will probably be only a single LP although we have 33 songs (original plans
were to be a double LP) right now. We will cut them down just like I was cut from
my high school baseball team. It will probably be about 38-41 minutes long. It
will feature some accompaniment from the middle schoolers where I teach.probably
from the 7th and 8th grade orchestra. It will have the best homemade packaging of
all time. The songs will be our best ever. It will indeed be available at local
stores. This album will hopefully inspire Paul McCartney and Ringo to get back
together and create a supergroup with Brian Wilson and Chris Cornell.that will
attempt to compete with us for best homemade pop album of all time.
HF: Will the new album include the songs you put out on your last single?
DC: Maybe, some promises were made with that single that may be broken.
HF: What?
DC: Let's wrap it up..this whole thing feels a little trite.
HF: OK, any last words..
DC: Listen to Boat play on KEXP later this month and hopefully never play in the GAP.
HF: Why not the GAP?
DC: I don't know.it just would be strange.I already feel strange enough shopping there.
HF: Yep..ok
