My own opinion - E.S. had his maudlin excesses reined in nicely by Neil Gust and company. "Mic City Sons" is tighter, more focused and more consistently tuneful than any of Elliot's solo albums. Sorry, Elliot.
And speaking of Gust, people have yet to give him any props for his lyrics. In the context of a noisy post-punk band, writing songs about gay crushes and anonymous gay sex was, I think, pretty radical. I think because of those songs I have a better undertstanding of the hell people like him have to go through in their '20s.
The whole thing has still got me bummed . . there ought to be a seven-day waiting period for suicide. So many people have checked out just because they were in a bad mood they thought would never end.
