The government is considering various alternatives to the current system of television rating points (TRP), including setting up an industry-led body that will work as an accreditation or standardisation body for monitoring ratings generated by private players. These are some of the options that a committee constituted by the I&B ministry under FICCI secretary general Amit Mitra will consider. The ministry has on several occasions expressed concern over the significant impact that TRPs have on television reportage, advertising revenue and viewing public.
