Yes, we did have to pick the Alba poster.

If you ask me, 2005 started off a bit on the slow side as far as cinema goes. It certainly picked up pace and turned out to be a pretty decent year for movie goers. Here it is, my 2005 favorites.

For Great Cinema

“Walk the Line”
A legendary film about a legendary man. Joaquin Phoenix will blow you away with his portrayal of The Man in Black. My father, a huge Cash fan had this to say: "There were times I forgot I wasn't really watching Johnny Cash."

“Crash”
This is an unflinching film with an amazing cast of characters. What can happen when you judge by appearance? What can happen when you judge some one based on their race? What can happen when you hate, or fear some one you've never met? What happens when you realize we aren't all that different from one another?

“Brokeback Mountain”
A beautifully painful story of forbidden desires and forbidden love. In 1960s Wyoming two cowboys struggle to live a "normal" life, while denying the feelings they have for one another. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal shine in this drama.

“Memoirs of a Geisha”
Beauty, mystery, tradition, discipline, art, intrigue, rivalry…This is the world of the geisha and it comes to life in this film. Stunning! Absolutely stunning!

“The Constant Gardener”
What happens when giant corporations trample all over small African villages? What happens when someone is willing to risk it all, even their own life, to help? What happens when that someone is someone you love? And what happens when you find out they were right?

“Sin City”
This is hands down one of the most unique films I have ever seen. A comic book come to life on the big screen.

“Batman Begins”
The question "Where does he get those wonderful toys?" is finally answered.

“Cinderella Man”
This is just a great story with great acting.

“House of D”
The movie you probably missed; this is a great coming of age movie.
