Who the Hell is this Band? Snowbell hones their craft in the land of Indie pop By Matt Ashworth Snowbell are recent transplants to the indie music hot bed of Olympia, Washington. Unlike the majority of that town’s current bands, who either play metal or punk rock, Snowbell play pop music, citing Belle and Sebastian, the Beach Boys and the Zombies as influences. “We do melodic, melancholy pop songs,” says singer/songwriter/guitarist Galilee. “There aren’t too many other bands doing that in Olympia right now.” |

Promote This Beeyatch! September 1999 While snobby corporate rock mags like SPIN and Rolling Stone have oodles of albums to wade through, most of which end up in the circular file, we here at Nada Mucho got the time and space to talk about everything we're sent. Part altruistic big brothers and part reclusive nerds, we put this column together to both promote the work of independent bands and to educate our listeners on the wide variety of music available to anyone with an imagination, a computer, and a credit card. If you want to gain some free exposure for your band, send promotional materials to: Nada Mucho World Headquarters, 1512 Summit Ave Suite #302, Seattle, WA, 98122. 6x Kung-Pow! Daemon Records - Decatur, Georgia http://www.daemonrecords.com/daemon.html Something like the Ramones vs. the Fat Tulips, minus the Ramones' edge or the Fat Tulips cuddliness. It's not bad stuff though - three chords and a distortion pedal. Not enough attitude to get you suspended, but could lead to some time in study hall. Bonus points for a cover of "Be My Baby." If lead singer Lara Kiang could go on a year-long Lost Weekend her voice might become distinctive enough to pull this band up through the ranks - they lack that thing which could distinguish them from the ever-growing pack of almost-rans |

By Reggie Gilmer, Tokin' Pimp 1) Never go to a club before midnight. That way you won't spend as much money on the club's over-priced drinks. Most bars close at 2 a.m. and an hour or so is more than enough time to find some trim. In addition, by midnight the girls at the club are more likely to have their drink on. 2) Never buy a girl a mixed drink unless there is a special. Beer is almost always cheaper than a mixed drink. |

By Nada Staff Let's face it, Nada Mucho's staff are overzealous egomaniacs who love to hear their name spoken aloud by anyone, much less referenced by rock stars. How could we not keep a list of cool things bands have said about our little publication? NadaMucho.com Testimonials - “You guys blew it, fuck off and stop e-mailing me, I don't want to be on your faggot ass website, so just leave me alone, forever.” - Stephen Glover (Steve-O from MTV’s Jackass.) - "My visit to your planet has been most fascinating. Your strange habits, customs, language. And what you refer to as 'music'.. most curious." - Johnette Napolitano, Concrete Blonde - "Me and the boys sometimes stop by the NadaMucho.com offices to empty our bedpans. Now that's rock and roll - pissin' in an office." - The Catheters |

By Marshall Escamilla Black Lipstick has been getting a lot of good press. With this month’s release of their first full-length album, Converted Thieves, a slew of shows in and around Austin (including a SXSW showcase), and an upcoming tour of the Midwest and East coast, they’ve also been pretty darn busy. They managed to find a few minutes to sit down with me at Waterloo Icehouse after their in-store performance. The interview began when guitarist Philip brought a pitcher of beer over to a table I was already sharing with bassist Steve, drummer Beth and guitarist Travis. We talked for a little while about hating other bands, peep-mobiles and butlers. It went something like this. Steve: … well lemme finish my one story, though… Philip: (pouring beer from the pitcher) Why don’t you share this with Beth… |
