Grizzled rocker J Mascis seemed more excited to hang out with alumni from Seattle bands Mudhoney and Pearl Jam in the green room than play for the sold-out Tractor Tavern crowd on November 19, but once on stage he got a twinkle in his eyes and delivered a great set.
The former Dinosaur Jr. front-man played mostly songs from his new Sub Pop solo album, Tied to a Star, with a few classics sprinkled in. Every guitar lick was exactly what you would expect as he sat in a chair in front of an ample pedal-board, barely moving and inch from left to right or up and down.
Bathed solo in blue LED lights, Mr. Mascis was hard to photograph but man did he sound good.
