Halcyon Digest, the fourth album from Atlanta's Deerhunter, serves up eleven beautifully-understated psychedelic pop/rock songs highlighted by the stunning "Desire Lines," a grand track written by guitarist Lockett Pundt. The contributions from prolific frontman Bradford Cox (who also records under the name Atlas Sounds) are beautiful as well, with just enough Velvet Underground "chugga chugga" on tracks like "Revival" and "Coronado" to keep the spacey affair engaging. The latter even threatens to make rock n' roll saxophone cool again. This is one of my favorite records of the year. The band just played the Showbox on October 28, so you know, hopefully you got to go check it out. - (9/10) (0) Comments |
