The Hollow Points Bullet Holes in City Walls Dirtnap/Pop Militia Records By Michael Lewis The Hollow Points are a local punk rock outfit that has obviously spent time worshipping at the altar of Bad Religion, the Dead Kennedys - two of my all time favorites - and The Clash. Unfortunately, they don't live up to the legacy of any of these bands. Rather than directing their rage in a cohesive fashion, the band flies their sophomoric middle finger to the world at large. The album is essentially handicapped by the tired and empty lyrics; the band tries to “get political”, to instill the songs with Great Social Meaning™, but they use meaningless slogans to get their point across. In other words: they never say why. Why are they angry? Why are they so desperate? Why is the world a steaming bag of crap? Rage is a tool - rage isn’t supposed to be the objective. There is one good thing about the album: the music is well written and arranged. Sadly, that's not really the point here. - (6/10) |
