Bitching Out with The Girls
Interview – The Girls
Q & A With Mario, Brown and Zache
By Matt Ashworth, Supreme Overlord
NadaMucho.com: All of you are boys, yet you call your band “The Girls.” Why?
Brown: A good friend of ours that knows us all decided it would be and appropriate name, it’s the Bitching out factor
NM: Can you please explain the “bitching out factor.” Does that mean you guys act like a bunch of girls, then?
Mario: Hmmmm. First of all, we are a bunch of girls. That is the name we’ve chosen for the band after all. B. we use “bitching-out” as a general term for conversing with “The Girls” as a group. Ya’ know, like “today we have the distinct pleasure of “‘Bitching Out’ with The Girls”. We don’t mean it in a negative way toward women, just in the bitching-out as in complaining way. However we do tend to get a little cranky once a month or so. Normally when Zache is ovulating.

NM: Speaking of girls, do you meet a lot of them, being rock stars and all? Which member of the band pulls the most tail?
Brown: I don’t know about the rock star thing, but of course we like to surround ourselves with beautiful women.
Zache: Nick, (D-Lab) definitely has reign on ass..
NM: You’ve recently returned from South by Southwest. Please tell us about that experience and the reaction you got.
Zache: SXSW was amazing, I really wish we could have spent more time there. The trip to Austin went well, San Francisco was sold out, and when we took the stage in Austin, I can honestly say that it was the best live experience we’ve ever had.
NM: What made the experience so great? Atmosphere? Crowd? Your performance? You had the best rider?
Mario: I think the reason that we had so much fun at SXSW was a combination of all the things that make a show great. The over all crowd vibe was great, which only fueled us to go even further with our show. The venue (Beerland) was raw and gritty, just the kind of environment that we feel most at home in. And the atmosphere in Austin for SXSW is like nothing else, great music everywhere you turn and a party like no other.
NM: What should folks expect from your live set when you headline a NadaMucho.com Presents bill this Saturday night at The Sunset?
Zache: Blow dryers, Mannequins and Black leather gloves. We are the ones selling dope disguised as nuns.
NM: I’ve read articles comparing your music to The Cars and The Buzzcocks. Are these accurate comparisons? Who else would you list as major influences?
Brown: Yes of course they are accurate. Other influences are the Voidoids, Roxy Music.
Zache: Brian Eno, Salvador Dali.
NM: Zache mentioned Gary Numan as a current band favorite. Will future recordings migrate away from classic 70s power-punk and more towards 80s synth pop? Might you one day cover Thomas Dolby?
Brown: Gary Numan definitely one of the favs. We are migrating into Bitch-Wave.
Mario: Fuck Thomas Dolby, Howard Jones!
NM: Return to Zero is a great EP. When can we expect a new full-length?
Brown: The full Length on Dirtnap will include songs from the Return to Zero EP as well as some new material. We are already at work on the next record.
NM: Is the Dirtnap platter available for purchase already then?
Nick… No. The Dirtnap record won’t be released in the U.S. until May 10th. We do however have an import available on Radio Blast Records from Germany out now. That one has some alternate tracks and different mixes of the songs from the Dirtnap disc.
NM: Name your three current favorite Seattle bands.
Eric…Yeah Right! We ain’t gonna fall for that old trick. We say three bands and then forget to mention someone and then they get pissed. Fuck That! We get enough shit as it is.
NM: Name at least two semi-prominent Seattle bands who don’t deserve the hype.
Mario… I think that if a band can somehow manage to get any attention at all in the local or national music scene then they probably have worked to get it in some way or other. To us that alone deserves some credit.
Eric…Besides, It’s all a matter of taste anyway. Nobody tries to create something that sucks and then tries to sell it to people. Do they?
NM: Rumor has it you guys party like rock stars. Can you score us some blow?
Zache: What Chu Need Homie?
NM: Ummmm, nothing actually. Just checkin’.
