Andy Bookwalter – Last Friday, in the deepest depths of a NyQuil binge, I agreed to put on my press pants and cover a night of Freakout Fest 2022. There’s rarely a good reason to venture north of the Ship Canal Bridge, but Ballard has rarely done me wrong when it comes to live music, so northwards I went.
Naomi Cooper – Excited to cover Freakout Fest last Thursday night with both words and drawing, I hustled to the box office near the new “Freakout in the Streets” outdoor stage and managed to catch a bit of Chris King and the Gutterballs before totally-not-speedwalking over to Hotel Albatross for The Kathy Moore Super Power Trio (KMSPT) with special guest Jessica Lurie.
Andy Bookwalter – The Capitol Hill Block Party bookers have an amazing talent for programming three days of music performed by musicians with names I dimly recognize, if I’m lucky. I don’t think they do this on purpose to screw with Ole’ Andy, though, as that would make no sense.
Paul Stinson – Not every Austin band earns their SXSW and Austin City Limits stripes in the same year – or in a lifetime – but that’s exactly what folk-psych rock outfit Good Looks is doing after winning a dedicated following over the last year.
