Brendan O’Brien – Recently, Hilarie from The Apples in Stereo was kind enough to answer some of my dopey questions via email. Who is Hilarie? She is the wife of lead singer/songwriter Robert Schneider, and recently became mother to their child – just to get that connection out of the way – but she is also one of the most kick-ass of modern indie-pop drummers around.
Adam Lawrence – There are few singers who can honestly say, “I can sing anything” and mean it. Kelly Hogan, however, is one of those few. Born with a voice forged from diamonds, she’s just as comfortable belting out a tear-in-your-beer honky-tonk number as she is tackling the intricacies of jazz vocals.
Matt Ashworth – Not nearly enough people paid notice when Athens, Georgia singer/songwriter Jack Logan released Bulk, an excellent two disc collection of songs he’d written over the years while working as an auto mechanic. Hopefully, more people take note of thee albums Logan is releasing on Backburner (including more of his own), the label he co-owns with friend and fellow musician Kelly Keneipp.
Sarah Baker – Being newly transplanted to Seattle from LA, I was clueless about the local music scene, especially since the last time I lived in the Northwest was during the heyday of Grunge. Imagine my delight in discovering KEXP’s”The Morning Show” with John Richards playing set lists featuring the hottest up and coming bands in the area, not to mention more mainstream indie and alternative classics!
