Peaks of the Week: February 6-12

Posted by February 4th, 2012 No Comments »

By Tim Basaraba

Peaks of the Week is a new regular feature in which we recommend live performances in the Seattle area that might serve as a high point for the upcoming seven day period. We’ll try to pick shows that might otherwise have flown beneath your radar, though that may be difficult given the musical aptitude of our dear readers.

Helmed by regular contributor TBASA and featuring a rotating cast of contributors, POTW will publish most Sunday nights. Submit your suggestions via our Facebook or Twitter pages, or in the comments below the previous week’s installment. Or click here and send us an electronic message.

Monday, February 6
Michael Shrieve’s Spellbinder @ White Rabbit

Want to see the world’s best Hammond B3 player? You can on Monday night. His name is Joe Doria and he’s a Seattle institution. Here he performs with former Santana band member Michael Shrieve, who regularly gathers some of the city’s best players for Fremont jam sessions.

Tuesday, February 7
Lemolo @ The Vera Project

These girls are cute. Meagan Grandall and Kendra Cox also make good music. We fell in love with both (the girls and the music) last year when they played a couple showcases. Their star is rising, so catch them in a small room while you still can.

Wednesday, February 8
Dengue Fever @ Neumos

Cambodian psychedelic rock at it’s finest, Dengue Fever are one of my favorite bands. Here’s an interview I did with their guitar player Zac before their Seattle tour stop last year.

Thursday, February 9 Presents 4 on the Floor @ High Dive

This is our last monthly show at Fremont’s lovely High Dive for awhile, so do join us for four great local bands: The Springboards, Death’s Three Daughters, Indecisive Rhythm and Marnie.

Friday, February 10
Duran Duran Tribute Night @ The Crocodile

This yearly event pays homage to the D squared while raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The lineup includes John Roderick of the Long Winters, Jupe Jupe, Fly Moon Royalty and more.

Saturday, February 11
2nd Annual February Freak Fest @ The Mix

It’s Georgetown’s ART ATTACK this weekend and the Mix’s Freak Fest night features Ramona the Band, who are headed to SXSW. So come see them off in style. Also playing: Deathtrap America (PDX) and much more.

Sunday, February 12
Dillon Warnek @ The Skylark

With one of the most beautiful voices in all of Seattle, Dillon’s performance at this intimate West Seattle club is a great way to finish off the week.
