Photo Set: Slowdive @ The Neptune
Slowdive, one of the original “shoegaze” bands (so dubbed because they spent so much time looking down at their pedals and other gear) from that genre’s early-90’s heyday, released three albums and a handful of other recordings before fading from memory, though you can hear their influence – or at least their style – in many of today’s cinematic, effects-heavy critical darlings. Explosions in the Sky, M83 and rising Baltimore band Wildhoney are just a few of the many examples.
Like many influential alt-rock bands of the 90s, the five-piece were coaxed out of retirement to play a few festivals and parlayed it into a full-blown comeback tour. Since many of our founding fathers probably still have a copy of Souvlaki dubbed on to one side of 90-minute cassette tape somewhere, we thought it was only fair that we send photographer Gregory Heller out to capture their November 4 show at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle. Here are some highlights.
