TBLFAS #69: Alina Ashley Nicole, Our Dead Fathers, Naomi Botkin & Whisperer

September 2 at Substation, a DIY space turned venue nestled cozily between Fremont and Ballard, NadaMucho.com Contributor Tim Basaraba will host the 69th installment of his wildly unpopular acoustic music series called TBASA’s Lof-Fi All-Stars. We asked Tim for his thoughts on this month’s performers and here’s what he said.

Alina Ashley Nicole

Alina has an entrancing voice and down-to-earth lyrics, both of which battle for attention during her rare Seattle performances. She also does a great cover of Built to Spill’s “Big Dipper.”

Here’s a video of Ashley singing her beautiful original “Red Night” a couple years ago:

Our Dead Fathers

I don’t know much about Our Dead Fathers but their Facebook band page says they are “… a celebration of diversity in the creative pursuits of the modern songwriter,” which is a notion I can get behind.

Here’s a video of a solo performance from band member Christopher Michael Meyer earlier this year:

Naomi Botkin

I had only seen Naomi perform with her band Tigers in the Tank until she blew my mind with her beautiful voice and guitar skills earlier this month Acoustic at Acoustic Armageddon in Georgetown. She’s multilingual, so when she plays on Wednesday we might get treated to some songs in French and Italian as well as English.

Here is a video of her performing early last year at the Mix in Georgetown:

Whisperer

I am not sure if I am supposed to call him Sam T. Smith or Whisperer when I see him for the first time on Wednesday, but after listening to his three song EP on bandcamp I will smile when I do.
