Video Premiere: Freeway Park’s “Beers From Alaska”
When we first became smitten with local band Freeway Park, it was on the strength of live recordings posted on their SoundCloud page in 2015. The songs – which mix insightful spoken-word storytelling that calls to mind the rock ‘n roll poetry of Craig Finn with the vocal delivery and angular guitar of 90s indie cult sensations Slint – were enough to earn the band a spot on our list of 41 Bands We’re Watching in 2016.
The group subsequently hooked up with expertly-named local indie label Noise Noise Ouch Stop Records (NNOSR) to record and release their debut album, a 7-song affair available via cassette and BandCamp called Least of My Concerns.
Today we debut the band’s first official video, for their album’s first single, “Beers From Alaska,” which was shot on location at Judes Old Town in Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood.
According to Videographer Eric Fundingsland, “The idea was simple: film a music video where the lead singer acts like a stand-up comedian instead of a lead singer.”
Guitarist Adam Grunke played the bearded comedian in the beginning, bassist John Jernigan is the character who spits beer on singer Graham Isaac’s crotch, and drummer Patrick Gill had the least amount to drink that night so he got stuck running second camera, Fundingsland notes.
