Capitol Hill Block Party
July 21-23, 2023
By Aubrey Oliver

It’s Sunday, the final day of the 2023 Capitol Hill Block Party, and I’m headed to the festival for the first time ever.

I’m really excited to see a few artists I’ve been listening to for quite some time now, especially Rico Nasty. I first got into the Maryland rapper/singer when I heard her 2017 track “Key Lime OG.” The song became an instant favorite, and I later became a huge fan of her 2020 album Nightmare Vacation. I’m excited to see her hair style and choice of outfits (her Instagram posts never fail to impress me) when she performs on the Block Party mainstage tonight at 7 p.m… I’ll be singing along to all her hits.

Another artist I’m excited to see is Slayyyter, a pop singer and songwriter from Missouri. I first knew of her as an online influencer and grew to love some of her hits, such as “Daddy AF” and “Self Destruct.” I love that she’s not afraid to be purely pop and lean into the girly side of everything. Her set starts at 7:15 p.m. on the VERA stage.

It was really disappointing to hear that PINKPANTHERESS had to cancel her remaining tour dates at the recommendation of her doctor. Her music is unique and adorable, and I was excited to watch her perform the songs I’ve been hearing all over Tik Tok and in all my friends’ cars. I hope she gets well soon and can get back on stage, doing what she loves.

The Capitol Hill Block Party organizers chose great artists this year, so I’m also looking forward to just wandering the grounds with my best friend and discovering some new music as well. Watch for my recap of today’s action next week.

Editor’s note: Aubrey Oliver is a 17-year-old artist and musician based in Everett. She recently released her first single, “Mary Janes.” This is her first time covering live music for NadaMucho.com.
