Coachella Weekend 2: Jeff’s Picks

Posted by April 19th, 2012 No Comments »

Every so often, there’s an event or activity you plan to do for years and years before you finally just say “ah hell, I am really doing this.”

I did that twice last year. The first was a two month long backpacking trip through Southeast Asia and Australia. The other was buying a ticket to The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2012.

I had of course streamed the Coachella 2011 live webcast and watched Kanye West sing all of my favorite tracks. Upset that I wasn’t there to see it live, this set of a chain of events where I eventually ended up with a pass to Coachella 2012. I bought the ticket in May 2011, well before any artists were announced. It was pretty much, “I won’t miss next years event… regardless of who is performing.”

7. Kendrick Lamar –  If Lamar can show as much energy live as he does on his outstanding Section.80 album, his set will be an experience. Plus Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg claimed him “New Prince of the West Coast.” Song to check out: “The Recipe” (I’m really hoping Dr. Dre comes out and performs with Kendrick btw)

6. The Weeknd – Beats mastermind. Super slow R&B king. This dude does it all. And before he announced his American tour, he rarely ever played live. Song: “High For This”

5. Florence + and the Machine – Forget Adele, Florence is my it girl. I missed her when she came to Seattle, I won’t make the same mistake again. Song: “Shake It Out”

4. A$AP Rocky – Easily my favorite rapper in the game right now. The dude can spit genius lines and knows how to pick out a proper beat. And closing out Saturday night? Count me in. Song: “Brand New Guy”

3. Swedish House Mafia – Three of the world’s top DJs, Swedish House Mafia sold out Madison Square Garden in a matter of minutes. I’ll be there Friday when they close out the night. Song: “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall (Swedish House Mafia Remix)”

2. Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg – Whoa, two hip hop stars from my childhood performing together?! Wouldn’t miss it. Really when was the Dr. Dre performed live? Or released a CD? Song: “Still D.R.E. (What else?)”

1. Avicii – Possibly the biggest name in electronic music right now, I saw Aviici in January at the Paramount and it was awesome. Better yet, he’s supposed to have an all new live set for Coachella. Song: “Don’t Give Up on Us (Enough is Enough)”

I’ll be Tweeting what I can from @nadamucho, so be sure to follow along. And tune in to Coachella’s live YouTube webcast, where it is like you are almost there.
