Decibel Dilemma: Hard Choices on Friday
By Justin Jensen
The lineup at the 2014 Decibel Festival on Friday is stellar and diverse, which means hard choices. Here’s everywhere I wish I could be.
Hardware Showcase @ EMP Sky Church
Simian Mobile Disco: Don’t come for the band’s well known cuts like “It’s the Beat” or “Hustler” — do come for new album/tour Whorl‘s sweeping, cinematic sounds and unique take on “live” electronic performance. Preceded by A/V auteur Robert Babicz, EMP’s Sky Church should be packed for this one.
Silent Season Showcase @ EMP Level 3
After a cancellation by Scuba, Gui Boratto & Friends‘ euro-house stylings are off the menu at EMP Level 3, replaced by Silent Season’s label showcase including Segue, ASC, and Jamie McCue.
Sines of Life Showcase @ The Showbox
El Ten Eleven: expect to be amazed by this excellent post-rock duo’s complex textures and melodies. Don’t expect lyrics.
Soulection Showcase @ The Crocodile
Sweater Beats: uniquely trippy edits of pop and R&B tracks guaranteed to keep the dance floor moving. If you’re looking to get laid, but don’t have the stamina to keep up with Molly at the afterparty, Sweater Beats might be your best bet. Or…
Crew Love Showcase @ Q Nightclub
If you hit the Crew Love showcase from Wolf & Lamb featuring Soul Clap and Nick Monaco, be prepared for some super soulful, sexy house vibes at Q Nightclub. It will be followed by some serious techno at the afterparty, courtesy of Steffi, the venerable Marcel Dettmann and Anthony Parasole.
Conscious Nights @ Showbox Sodo
This one features the “world’s only trap band” in Keys n Krates, followed by the ineffable Paper Diamond.
