Decibel Festival Preview: Kimbra
Decibel Festival
September 26-30
Seattle, Washington
Decibel is not your average festival. The yearly event happens over five days in Seattle proper, with events happening at multiple venues across town. And while it brings some of the “biggest names in electronic music,” that doesn’t mean mainstream megastars like Avicii or Swedish House Mafia, it means the most respected names in “underground” electronic like Orbital, Kimbra and Bonobo.
Like Bumbershoot earlier this month, Decibel gives people the opportunity to branch out and try something new. In addition to the Indie electronic elite, the event features great local artists and acts from across the globe, some of whom don’t travel to the Pacific Northwest very often.
I’ll be covering the festival this weekend, so tune in on NadaMucho.com’s Twitter feed and Flickr page for real time updates and recaps right here on the site. In the meantime, I’ll count down the five acts I’m most excited to see.
5. Kimbra (Wednesday at Showbox at the Market)
Kimbra probably got her biggest break for opening for Gotye on his last tour. But don’t worry, she won’t cover the omnipresent “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Instead her jazzy pop music will get you moving and then you’ll realize her lyricism and just be blown away. It’s nice to see such a talented manipulator of electronic sounds who also writes great songs. She’s actually kind of similar to Adele, only with less crying.
