Decibel Festival
September 26-30
Seattle, Washington

As luck would have it, the act I was most looking forward to seeing at the 2012 Decibel Festival cancelled today. But don’t let that deter you from attending: the event features more than 130 artists from 19 countries, including big names like DJ Shadow, Carl Craig and the Cannabanoids alongside emerging acts like Ariel Pink and local artists such as Lusine.

As a recap, at #5 on my list is Kimbra, #4 is Sphongle Presents the Masquerade and #3 is Shlohmo.

2. Star Slinger (Thursday at Neumos)
Less than two years old, Star Slinger has become a sought after name for festivals performing at such events like Glastonbury. His mix of hip hop and electronic is unique to the electronic world and has been praised by Pitchfork and BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac. His latest original production single, “Dumbin’ (feat. Reggie B),” is highly anticipated.

1. Actress (CANCELLED)
I was most looking forward U.K. producer Actress performing Friday night at the Baltic Room but, alas, he announced today that he had to cancel. That’s a shame, because the guy has both an ear for talent, having discovered and released acts like Disrupt and Zomby, and several amazing productions of his own, including Maze and Shadow From Tartarus.

The silver lining is that he’s been replaced by LA beatmaker Nosaj Thing.
