December 3 @ Neumos in Seattle

If you’ve paid close attention to NadaMucho.com’s endeavors over the last decade you’ll know that our music snobbery does not extend to tribute nights. In fact, we love them… especially when they highlight great local talent while giving us an opportunity to hear great songs that we might otherwise never have had the opportunity to see performed live.

No surprise, then, that the December 3 “Every Little Counts” showcase at Neumos caught our attention amidst all the hustle and bustle of a busy November. Curated by influential DJ and tastemaker Marco Collins and Mike Lucero of FM Collective, a group of artists (including members of The Posies, Portugal The Man, Shaprece and others) who collaborated on a self-titled CD released last fall to raise more than $5000 for music-related charities, the night pays homage to one of the formative bands of the NadaMucho.com universe, Manchester’s New Order.

To say that “New Order is a band that has had a profound influence on modern music,” as Collins did when I chatted with him about the night, is undeniable. The group’s use of electronic instruments and danceable beats within the context of what we’d now call Indie rock is literally the connective tissue that binds those two genres. Couple that with the timeless nature of their songs and the strength of the group’s storytelling and it’s a wonder there aren’t New Order tribute nights every couple of months; this is rich sonic territory to re-visit.

Paying homage to such an iconic band requires style, grace and talent, so it’s reassuring to see that Collins and Lucero have curated such a strong lineup of local rock stars. Performers from established local acts like Fly Moon Royalty and Motopony as well as promising up-and-comers like The Fame Riot and NadaMucho.com staff favorite Lazer Kitty will try their hand at classics like “Bizarre Love Triangle,” “Blue Monday” and “Age of Consent.” The aforementioned FM Collective band, featuring Posie Ken Stringfellow, will serve as the evening’s headliner.

Tickets are $12. All proceeds benefit Musicares, a non-profit organization that provides human services like health care and addiction treatment to members of the music industry.
