The sound of the Rebirth Brass Band is the sound of New Orleans – loud, full of energy, a mix of styles from traditional street brass band to funk and hip-hop, and a little bit dirty. Walk into a Rebirth show, like I did at the Tractor Tavern on March 5, and it’s like you’ve walked through the doors of the Maple Leaf in New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood. Blaring horns, a kicking beat on a big marching bass drum, and the call-and-response vocals – you can’t help but get in the groove.
