TBLFAS #68: The W Lovers, Star Anna, Tobias the Owl, Jordan Beach & Patrick Nehoda

Hey Kids! Tonight, the 68th installment of Tim Basaraba’s recurring acoustic showcase, TBASA’s Lo-Fi All-Stars, goes down at the new Substation venue in Ballard. Here’s Tim on this month’s performers.

The W Lovers

This husband and wife duo recently used Indiegogo to earn 15K toward their upcoming release. Constantly playing the region, the group’s musical chops are as good as their fundraising prowess too. It’s refreshing to see musicians who fully commit to their craft, discard their safety net and create an authentic, visceral sound that only talent-with-desperation can bring.

Here is a video of the W lovers at the now defunct Benbow room from last November:

Star Anna

Star Anna has a voice and songs that hook fans of many types of music but her chops on guitar are what really impress me. Aggressive, yet soothing, is a rare combination and anyone who has yet to see her in a small club should take the chance tonight.

Here is a video of Star’s entire performance on KEXP last year:

Tobias the Owl

Once, there was a man. A man who was a group who was a man whose name was Tobias the Owl

Jordan Beach

Jordan is one of those singer songwriters whomake people want to stand up, even when he’s playing guitar solo, and maybe even dance. This is a rare quality for a Seattle musician.

Here is Jordan playing in 2013 at the White Rabbit, which is now a Taco joint:

Patrick Nehoda

New to the city, Patrick is eager to play and, after hearing him perform, I recommend Seattle be eager to listen. He’s got a powerful voice and zero pretense.

Here’s a video of Patrick playing a cover at Georgetown Music earlier this year:

As always, I finish off the night with hacky covers and uninspired originals:
