The First Video from the Dum Dum Girls’ Upcoming Release
Dum Dum Girls is the musical outlet for Dee Dee Penny, an L.A. by way of New York City singer/songwriter who’s married to Brandon Welchez of Crocodiles.
The pair keep company with bands who have similar sonic tendencies (Penny has collaborated with Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and received production help from Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes) and Dee Dee writes great songs, meaning Dum Dum Girls are neck-in-neck with Cults in the battle for “best active fuzzy Indie pop band with a female singer.”
As a follow up to their very good 2012 End of Daze EP, Dum Dum Girls – which currently includes Penny’s apparently last-name-less band mates Jules (lead guitar, vocals); Sandy (drums, vocals); and Malia (bass, vocals) – will release an new LP called Too True in January 2014, which you can preorder at Sub Pop.com.
In the meantime, here’s the first song and video from it, a fuzzy, stately affair called “The Lost Boys & Girls Club.”
