There is very specific time and place for Irish folk punk. For me, that magical, fleeting window occurred during the summer between freshman and sophomore year of high school, when I attended my second Bumbershoot.
I saw live music for the first time when I was fourteen. The summer between middle school and high school, the time when peers start to become temperamental creatures stuck between childhood and adulthood, I went to Bumbershoot with three of my best friends and I totally fucked up.
As you may recall, Capitol Hill Block Party announced their headliners a few weeks ago, showing an impressive depth for the festival both in genre and quality. By adding more acts via The Vera Stage, presented by Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card Now, the Cap Hill area can expect even more impressive acts, both on a national and local scale, including Dum Dum Girls, The Julie Ruin, and Robert Delong.
This Saturday celebrates the seventh annual Record Store Day, which means record stores around the world will be selling exclusive releases and previously unheard music by some huge artists.
