CHBP Saturday Preview: Todd Doesn’t Have a Plan

Posted by July 22nd, 2023 1 Comment »

This is a message from Todd Terry, to Todd Terry.

Todd Terry is NadaMucho.com’s Capitol Hill Block Party 2023 correspondent for Saturday, July 22. If you see him wandering the festival grounds in the Pike/Pine corridor on Saturday afternoon, say hello. Maybe even give him a high five or a band recommendation.

“Your mission, citizen journalist Todd Terry, should you decide to accept it, is to provide coverage of the Capitol Hill Block Party on Saturday July 22 for the mysterious organization know only as Nada Mucho.

Since nearly all the artists performing Saturday at Block Party are unknown to you, you will be essentially going blind into a highly volatile environment. You have been provided a list of artists, but many of them are obviously aliases. Like these:

  • Fortress of the Bear – Here’s hoping they sound like a combination of Minus the Bear and “Fortress Around Your Heart” by Sting.
  • Underscores – Truly one of the underrated typographic elements.
  • Coral Grief – Because who doesn’t love an underwater ecosystem themed pun?
  • Mr. Dinkles – Sounds like a junior high PE coach, but I know better because I saw them last year at Timber and they bring the thunder.
  • Samurai Del – OK, this one is actually a real artist too. I actually met him at Coindexter’s in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Spoiler –he did not appear to be an actual samurai.

Your best, and perhaps only, plan is to not have a plan. Just go forward into the masses with an open(ish) mind and see where the day takes you. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and do your best to stay out of the way of the herds of young people that will surely be roaming the grounds.

This message will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck and Godspeed, Todd.”
