Aaron Burkhalter – Finding a competent, enjoyable and eccentric musician in Montreal these days is like finding a liberal in Seattle who refuses to shop at Walmart. The vast collection of musical Canucks are not so much riding on the coattails of the first breakthrough Canadian acts — say, Arcade Fire — as they are swept in a massive outpouring of music that North America consumes with glee.
Dan Lurie – We kicked things off Friday at Habana Calle 6, lured by the false promise of free drinks. Portland’s Parenthetical Girls took the stage at noon and unleashed their moody brand of experimental pop on the small but attentive audience.
Andrew Mudede – The rate of difficulty, one has to conclude, in making a reasonable or otherwise watchable James Bond movie inflates to price-of-bread-in-Zimbabwe dimensions when there is no Ian Fleming text as guidance.
Mike Spine – Despite my exhaustion, I couldn’t fall asleep until after 2a.m. last night. After not more than an hour I was woken up by hooting and hollering through the paper thin walls of the apartment next door, meaning I slept poorly and insufficiently for the fifth night in a row. My body needs a vacation from my vacation.
Dan Lurie – Vanessa and I flew into Austin late Wednesday night and immediately hit the hay so we’d be in peak form for Thursday’s SXSW festivities. We woke up feeling spry and began our day with Pete’s Original Breakfast Tacos, followed by a steady stream of bloody marys and Pabst Blue Ribbon at the Red Eyed Fly.
