Gemma Alexander – On the first night of Decibel Festival, the Opening Gala at EMP is an obvious choice. I’ll get to see Vancouver duo Sabota; Portland’s Natasha Kmeto with visuals from Effixx; and locally based Lusine. But inevitably at a festival as well curated as Decibel, I wish I could be in two places at once.
Jeff Wilson – The always-spectacular Decibel Festival is back this year and taking place September 24-28. Like always, Founder Sean Horton and team are providing the city with top-notch house, techno and groovy beats from the less neon- and drop-focused side of electronic music to Seattle.
Matt Brown – New Zealand experimental pop songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Liam Finn is playing at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard this Friday night and there’s no doubt in my mind that I’ll have a great time at his show.
In June, Toronto hardcore band Fucked Up released Glass Boys, their follow up to 2011’s critically acclaimed David Comes To Life, on Matador Records and have been out touring the US and Europe with their epic live show.
Dan Lurie – Like Christopher Columbus in his prime, MusicfestNW has found land and is ready to colonize the banks of the mighty Willamette River for two days of fun in the sun. The move to the waterfront has its pros and cons, but for those with a decent quilt, it’s nice to know you can catch all the action from the seat of your short shorts.
