#41for2016 band Visceral Candy stopped by The Battlefield periodically throughout the year with Tim Stiles. Local recording artist and producer Jay Battle (QREEPZ, Dead Rich, Gran Rapids) takes a leap in producing live instrumentation, which is what gives the first track “Clown Shoes” a groovy Soul Coughing/Why? feel.
Graham Isaac – It might be an exaggeration to say Seattle’s heavy/loud/punk scene is going through a renaissance, but there’s no shortage of various contortions of loud sounds coming through the pike these days, at an impressive rate and quality. Frequently at the forefront of the intersecting scenes that make up Seattle’s new rock pantheon is Good to Die Records, so when they announce a new signing, it’s worth taking note.
Bart Cameron – These days, I’ve been singing along to the refrain “America. America, you give me nightmares.” It’s the latest mantra for getting through the day provided to me by Ian Felice, from the track of the new The Felice Brothers album, Life in the Dark.
Sam Chapman – Formed in 1991 by Slim Moon and Tinuviel Sampson as an avenue to promote and release the music and spoken-word recordings of prominent Olympia bands, the label’s first release, the self-titled compilation Kill Rock Stars, features appearances by a host of Northwest musical luminaries: Nirvana, Bratmobile, Bikini Kill, Courtney Love, Unwound, The Melvins and Seven Year Bitch, among others.
Matt Ashworth – Today we share with you “Oh Bill,” by Alex’s Hand, who are, in my admittedly under-educated opinion, Seattle’s perfect amalgamation of all that Beefheart and Zappa stuff your friends played you in college complete with random bursts of saxophone and softly chanted questions like “Is it because you beat your wife?”
