Sanae Kato – Earlier this year, Portland indie electronic band STRFKR played an intimate show to a full house at The Showbox in downtown Seattle. Lead singer Joshua Hodges came out dressed in a sparkly blue dress, pink sunglasses and a blonde wig, a nice change from the cape he adorned the last time I saw him perform.
Gary Horn – The CHBP was reassuringly balanced on the last day of the 2017 festival, providing a solid lineup that kept the crowd interested until the very end. While my NadaMucho.com Colleague Ian Bremner got his fill at the two large, outdoor stages, I focused primarily on the dearth of great local bands performing inside Neumos, Barboza and especially the Cha Cha, which seemed to have the market cornered on punk, post-punk and surf rock.
Ian Bremner, Old Rookie – A weekend of sun, music, street food and various amounts of alcohol may sound like absolute bliss, but even for the highly experienced festival-goers, by day three you need a pretty solid strategy to make it through to the headliners.
Lindsey Potter – I had some major déjà vu walking through the Capitol Hill Block Party gates on Saturday of this year’s festival. I had managed to get my granola bar taken away during my bag check (you would think I would learn by now), I was wearing my 2016 Vera Project CHBP t-shirt (I am happy to report that myself and two other people had that original idea), and I saw the same guy wearing a white and pink zebra print body suit that made his way into the photo for my review last year.
Sarah Volpone – Friday might be my new favorite day to attend Capitol Hill Block Party (CHBP), the 21-year-old weekend music festival that takes place smack dab in the middle of one of Seattle’s most storied neighborhoods this weekend. Hold old out until Sunday, like I have in previous years, and you might be overwhelmed with the smell of sweat and garbage. By comparison, the ever-present weed aroma yesterday was almost pleasant.
