After getting over my disgust from the lyrics of Twink the Wonderkid’s song “41 Years Old,” (Ever try to share a bottle wine with a seventeen year old?/ She feels like my daughter, I feel like her father.”) I had to admit they play pretty good pop/punk. They remind me a bit of Dead Milkmen; their music is well performed, catchy, and not to be taken seriously.
R. Sterling – This major label debut from New Orleans band World Leader Pretend is a mixed bag. The overall feel is grandiose and overwrought, not bad things in my book, but the set suffers from a lack of coherence or focus.
Crutial – The Hot Rollers choose not to play the Cute Card. You know, the dimpled cuteness Tee-hee-giggle-“Can someone tune my guitar cuz I’m a fragile unicorn princess” act that too often nets girl bands undue attention?
