Andy Perkovich – Rachaels Children are a three-piece experimental punk band from Seattle who’s sound combines rhythmic looping guitars, driving beats and wailing vocals to create a crescendo of noise that is equal parts beautiful and terrifying.
Tim Basaraba – Dreamworks sold me on their 2019 computer-animated adventure film Abominable with the tagline “from the Studio that brought you the How to Train Your Dragon Franchise.” The last of those great films told such a powerful story that it left me in tears as the credits rolled.
Caroline Anne – This Halloween, I ventured out to Eastlake’s Lo-Fi Performance Gallery to catch one of my favorite local bands, The Gods Themselves, deliver a flawless, costumed set of their disco-funk.
Tim Basaraba – It’s risky to release a sequel ten years later. Most don’t do the original justice. Dumb & Dumber To (2014), Clerks II (2006) and Escape from LA (1981) are just some examples of not leaving well enough alone. Could a film built on cultural commentary from ’09 still be enjoyable and funny? Or did Double Tap fall into the same sort of sequel-trap?
Tim Basaraba – The Disney machine started their new round of live action films inspired by their classic animations with 2010’s Alice in Wonderland. Tim Burton’s film was a box office hit, and critics mostly favored its adaptation.
