Kevin Long: Hard Work Paying Off for Singer/Songwriter from Spokane

Posted by January 9th, 2014 No Comments »

Timbrrr! Fest Series: Kevin Long

Kevin Long, a Spokane native singer-songwriter, sings with the understanding that less is more. His latest album, 2013’s Buena Vista, is created as clean, simple arrangements that place most of the focus on his guitar and his voice. Long’s voice is rich but reserved and uniformly warm, making it easy to revisit his music, especially his songs that feature string accompaniment from Passenger String Quartet.

Long’s hard work has started to pay off in the form of regional tours and local success. He recently opened for Pickwick and toured with Seattle favorite Rocky Votolato and fellow Timbrrr! Fest artist, Lotte Kestner. The two actually released a duet of “White Christmas” this past December. He carries himself similarly to Kestner, his music inherently urging listeners to focus on his lyrics and music equally, but also providing a comforting aesthetic all the same.

Nada Mucho: Have you been to Leavenworth? If so, what impressions did it leave with you?
Kevin Long: I don’t think I have been there- but it sure looks lovely in the winter time from the pictures I’ve seen.

NM: What are some of your New Year’s resolutions?
KL: I’ve overwhelmed myself with New Year’s resolutions in the past so I didn’t make any official ones this year. But I do hope to write/record new songs, travel overseas and read lots of books.

NM: The festival features snowshoeing and other winter-related activities. Do you have a favorite snow sport?
KL: Sledding and snowball fights are my favorites.

Timbrrr Fest! takes place January 10-11 in Leavenworth, Washington.
