Matt Ashworth – When we first became smitten with local band Freeway Park, it was on the strength of live recordings posted on their SoundCloud page in 2015. The songs – which mix insightful spoken-word storytelling that calls to mind the rock ‘n roll poetry of Craig Finn with the vocal delivery and angular guitar of 90s indie cult sensations Slint – were enough to earn the band a spot on our list of 41 Bands We’re Watching in 2016.

Macefield, now in its fourth year, is an independently run music event that takes place each fall in various venues in Ballard. It’s a great mix of national, regional, and local talent performing in small and mid-sized spaces over three days for a mere $55.
