Andy Bookwalter – The tap tap tap on the window came seconds after I parked Camper Van Bookwalter on a lonely road in “uptown Port Townsend” on Friday, Aug. 23. This wasn’t surprising; the locals seemed a little uneasy about the flood of tourists descending on their blue collar, totally unpretentious, non-touristy town.
Andy Bookwalter – In the beginning there was Sasquatch, which was awesome, in no small part because they let me in for free several years running. Then, in 2017, Sasquatch booked 21 Pilots to headline, enraging people who bought tickets before the lineup was announced. Maybe 21 Pilots roughed up the booker. I have no idea.
Andy Bookwalter – Everyone in the universe is batshit crazy for Lizzo and well they should be; she’s exactly what our too-skinny, too-white, too-lacking-in-flute-solos world needs. But is this decrepit old man batshit crazy enough to brave the crowds that descended on Capitol Hill to see her?
Andy Bookwalter – I kind of accidentally took in the evolution of rock, in the form of Search Party, an afternoon of music to benefit Seattle’s non-profit all-ages venue and music education organization The Vera Project, but oddly enough is not an all ages event.
Andy Bookwalter – My 14-year-old son Jake took me to see IDLES and Fontaines D.C. at Neumos at the end of May. By “took me” I mean I bought the tickets and the cheeseburgers and drove us to and from the venue, but he convinced me back in November that this was a show not to miss and, holy crap, he was right.
