Paul Broderson – We have all been there. Whether we’re in line at a coffee shop, chatting in the breakroom, or arguing on Facebook with classmates we haven’t seen in 20 years, the Oscars are this weekend and no one likes to pick a loser. Even if you don’t plan on spending time watching that shameless debacle, you probably want to have a good idea which film will win.

Peter Cameron – I wonder if the ancient Egyptians felt it necessary to separate art from the artist. Life was brutish and brief back then, so I’m not sure what an artist could’ve done to offend those ancient sensibilities. The main concern, I imagine, would’ve been trying not to offend the Pharaoh.


Elvis: A Hero to Most

Tim Basaraba – I am not a fan of Elvis. Not his music, not his films and not his persona. I am, however, a big fan of Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 Elvis biopic. From the get go, this characteristically frantic filmmaker convinced me that Elvis Presley is a historical figure I should care about.
