For more than a dozen years, a collective of talented musicians known as Marmalade has been offering a welcome respite to the city’s overabundance of guitar rock bands and electronic acts, offering instead an ass-shaking mix funk, soul, reggae, hip-hop and jazz each Thursday night in Fremont.
Earlier this year we shared a list of “41 Seattle Artists we’re Watching in 2015” as a way to highlight emerging bands deserving of attention. Photographer Jim Toohey recently had the opportunity to shoot one of the acts, Charlatan (Omar Rashan), at Cafe Racer.
Marz Elisa – On April 2, a free launch party for Timber Fest, an outdoor festival happening July 16-18 in Carnation, Wash., went down at the newly restructured Chop Suey. There was dancing, secret lineup announcements, free Pagliacci pizza and fun attendees.
Gemma Alexander – Web developers worked at laptops in a booth just inside the door making last minute tweaks to the Gigs4U website displayed nearby as people trickled into The Stables to celebrate the site’s launch on Wednesday night.
Gregory Heller – The sound of the Rebirth Brass Band is the sound of New Orleans – loud, full of energy, a mix of styles from traditional street brass band to funk and hip-hop, and a little bit dirty.
