The second day at Bumbershoot, Seattle’s annual festival of music and arts, settled in to it’s own a bit this afternoon as music programming hit its stride with a full slate of loud 90s guitar rock bands (Dead Moon, Melvins, Social Distortion and Faith No More) performing in Memorial Stadium while a packed Key Arena played host to the day’s leading electronic acts like Flosstradomus and Zedd.
Today started with a flood on anti-Bumbershoot sentiment on social media, spurred in part by a damning Seattle Times column asserting that the 34 year-old music and arts festival had been abandoned by the people who made it special and succumbed to “corporatitis,” and, whether you agree with that sentiment or not, it was kind of a rough day.
Last weekend, the fourth annual Summit Block Party took a step into adulthood, pulling off it’s first city-approved DIY music and arts extravaganza in the middle of Summit Ave between Olive and Howell Street on Capitol Hill.
Tim Basaraba – Ten Miles Wide played under their new moniker, laying to rest the name The Mothership after some legal issues. The aggression displayed by all three members (especially the drummer Will Andrews) was visceral with sweat and grimaces.
Big BLDG Bash took place June 6, 2015 in Seattle with nearly 50 artists performing on two courtyard “Yard” stages, a pair of industrial indoor performance areas called “Hangar 1” and “Hangar 2” and a couple of smaller rooms upstairs in the large green warehouse that hosted the event for it’s second year.
