An aged and rheumy-eyed punk puts on his Sans-A-Belt rock journalist pants and heads east. Last year the NadaMucho Music News Action Center Team consisted of three seasoned, grizzled veterans of countless shows, concerts and festivals. This year I was apparently the only one who whined loud enough, at the right time, so for 2014 the News Action Center Team is…me.
Self-described as a “Super Epic Action Adventure Rock Circus Extravaganza from the Sirius 9 Star System programming directly to your brain for total mind-blowing immersive entertainment that engages and triggers all tactile senses bending time and space with a head full of confetti and skip to your step,” Seattle’s metal circus sideshow Super Geek League have been steadily expanded their following over the last decade.
Poverty Bay earned their way in to our “14 Bands to Watch in 2014” by consistently putting on some great rock shows at tiny clubs last year. On Wednesday, May 21 they move up to the big time when they’ll celebrate the release of their first EP at Chop Suey.
Eagulls, a post-punk band from Leeds, England, reminded me the other day that sometimes “making it big” is all about passion, dedication, and hard work—or, as their lead singer and main songwriter George Mitchell put it, “having a record.”
